Lesson 1
You’re Ready to Play
You do not need to know everything before joining a game. You already understand the tiles, the rack, the card, and the basic flow of play. Real confidence comes from sitting down and playing. Mistakes are part of learning, and Pacific Mahj is a welcoming place to keep building your skills.

Lesson 2
Finding the Right Game
Pacific Mahj event labels can help you choose a comfortable place to begin. All Levels welcomes a mix of players. Beginners Welcome is especially friendly for newer players. Learn & Play offers extra guidance while you play. Experienced Players is intended for people who already know the basics and are comfortable with normal game play.

Lesson 3
What to Bring
Bring your current Mahjong card when the event calls for one, along with anything that helps you stay comfortable such as water, a snack, or something for notes. A small tote can make everything easy to carry. Always check the event listing before you go because the host may include additional details or specific items to bring.

Lesson 4
Arriving at the Table
Introduce yourself to the host and the other players, find your seat, and let the table know if you are new or still learning. That helps everyone understand how they can support you. Be open to tips and guidance, ask questions when you need to, and give yourself permission to relax and enjoy meeting the people at your table.

Lesson 5
Before the First Hand
Help set up if needed and get comfortable at your seat. Make sure the tiles, racks, dice, and Mahjong card are ready, and take a moment to review the card before play begins. If you are unsure about seating, winds, setup, or anything else, ask. Once everyone is ready, settle in and enjoy the game.

Lesson 6
It’s Okay to Ask Questions
Questions are a normal and important part of learning Mahjong. Ask what a tile means, why a move was made, or how a hand is coming together. Most players are happy to explain or demonstrate something again. Watch, ask, take notes if that helps you, and be patient with yourself as the game becomes more familiar.

Lesson 7
Playing at a Comfortable Pace
You do not need to be the fastest person at the table. Take reasonable time to look at your tiles, consider your options, and make your move. Stay relaxed while also being considerate of the other players and the flow of the game. Recognition and speed come naturally with experience, so focus first on thoughtful play and enjoying yourself.

Lesson 8
Mistakes Will Happen
Everyone makes mistakes, including experienced players. When something goes wrong, keep a positive attitude, understand what happened, ask a question if you need to, and continue playing. A mistake is simply another opportunity to learn. The goal is not perfect play—it is learning, connecting with others, and enjoying the game.

Lesson 9
Be a Good Tablemate
Treat everyone with kindness and respect. Pay attention, listen when others are explaining something, encourage the people at your table, and help keep the game moving. Be gracious, share what you know when appropriate, and help create a table where every player feels comfortable and included.

Lesson 10
When the Game Ends
When someone calls Mahjong, congratulate the winner and verify the hand together as appropriate. If the wall is exhausted without Mahjong, the hand ends as a wall game. Return the tiles, wash or shuffle them, rebuild the walls, and get ready for the next hand. Win or lose, keep it friendly and enjoy the time you shared around the table.

Lesson 11
Come Back and Play Again
Your first Pacific Mahj game is only the beginning. Every game makes the tiles more familiar, the card easier to read, and your decisions more natural. Come back to practice, try new possibilities, meet more players, and strengthen the friendships you are building. There will always be another seat waiting for you at the table.
